The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's largest professional academic organization in the field of computing, bringing together educators, researchers, industry professionals, and students in the international computer field. The ACM China Council, which includes several branches of computer science and information theory, aims to increase the visibility and influence of the Society in China. ACM China is committed to a number of activities, including attracting more ACM events to China; expanding ACM publications; providing more convenient access to ACM Digital Library and publications for members in China; and increasing the participation of ACM members in China in ACM activities.

Since its formal establishment in 2010, the ACM China Council has established regional chapters, including Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, Jinan, Lanzhou, Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan, Dalian, Zhengzhou, Beijing, Taiyuan, Hefei, Harbin, Qinhuangdao, Changchun, Hohhot, Xi'an, Tianjin, Qingdao, Xiamen, and other chapters. ACM China has also established its own Special Interest Groups (SIGs), including SIGCOMM China, SIGSAC China, SIGMOD China, SIGMOBILE China, SIGCSE China, SIGBIO China, SIGAI China, SIGOPS China, SIGMM China, SIGAPP China, SIGCHI China, SIGHPC China, SIGSPATIAL China, SIGWEB China and SIGBED China.
